James Franciscus was an American actor and producer. He was born on January 31, 1934 in Clayton, Missouri. He was best known for his roles in the television series The Naked City, The Investigators, and Longstreet. He also starred in the films The Cat from Outer Space, The Omega Man, and The Poseidon Adventure. Franciscus began his career in the 1950s, appearing in television shows such as The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin and The Loretta Young Show. He made his film debut in 1957 in The Young Stranger. He went on to appear in numerous films throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including The Cat from Outer Space, The Omega Man, and The Poseidon Adventure. In the 1980s, Franciscus appeared in the television series The Naked City, The Investigators, and Longstreet. He also appeared in the films The Final Countdown and The Beast Within. Franciscus died on July 8, 1991 at the age of 57. He was survived by his wife, actress Jeanette Nolan, and their two children.

In the mid 1980s, he became dissatisfied with the roles offered to him and turned his attention to screen writing.
